The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of four men by police during an operation in Retirement, St James, on Wednesday morning.
INDECOM confirmed that it was notified of the incident and has begun examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Early reports suggest that members of the security forces were carrying out an operation in the community in search of individuals believed to be linked to a recent murder in the area. During the operation, the police reportedly came under fire, resulting in a shootout.
Four men were shot and killed in the incident, including a father and his son. The identities of the deceased have not yet been disclosed.
The development comes on the heels of a series of fatal shootings on Tuesday, in which seven men were killed across three parishes, bringing the total number of fatalities from such incidents to 11 within a 24-hour period.
INDECOM reported that, up to June 9 this year, 143 people have been killed in fatal encounters involving members of the security forces.
Investigators are expected to process the scene, gather statements, and review evidence as part of the ongoing probe. Both the police and INDECOM continue their investigations into the incident.
