Police have identified the three individuals who were fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with members of the Westmoreland Proactive Investigation Unit in Bog District, Bluefields, on Tuesday evening.
The deceased have been identified as 48-year-old farmer Kenroy Russell, otherwise known as “Chris,” 45-year-old Carlene Henry, also called “Muchette,” and a man known only by the alias “Chicken.”
According to police reports, officers were carrying out surveillance operations in the area when the occupants of a Toyota Axio allegedly exited the vehicle and opened fire on the lawmen. The officers reportedly returned fire, and after the exchange, the three individuals were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were transported to hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Investigators say an AK-style rifle loaded with six rounds of 7.62 ammunition was recovered from the scene. Police also allege that a fourth man who was involved in the confrontation managed to escape and remains at large.
The scene was processed by members of the Area 1 Technical Services Division along with investigators from INDECOM. Detectives collected several spent shells, a bullet fragment, and blood samples as part of the investigation. The firearms used by the involved officers have also been seized for ballistic analysis while investigations into the incident continue.
