Dancehall artiste Chronic Law has broken his silence following his recent release from custody in the United States, where he was arrested and briefly held after being booked in Broward County, Florida.
The entertainer was reportedly taken into custody after authorities alleged that he was in possession of a firearm despite being prohibited from doing so. He was also held for the U.S. Marshals Service before later being released.
In a statement shared on his Instagram, Chronic Law addressed the incident for the first time, claiming that he has been the target of repeated harassment by law enforcement.
“I want to address this once and only once. What is happening to me is not new. It is part of a long, ongoing situation, and I believe I am being repeatedly targeted and harassed by the same officer connected to my arrest back in January,” he wrote.
The artiste said that after spending several months in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody and eventually securing his release, he was arrested again shortly after performing at the Rise N Toast event on July 5.
According to Chronic Law, the arrest stemmed from an alleged warrant in the U.S. state of Georgia, despite the fact that he had been in Atlanta the previous day performing without encountering any issues with authorities.
The dancehall entertainer said the repeated arrests have taken a significant toll on both his personal life and career.
“At this point, this situation is affecting my freedom, my life, and the career I have worked hard to build. I am asking the media and the public to pay attention to what is happening. I am prepared to face any legitimate legal matter through the proper legal process, but I am asking for the continued targeting and harassment to stop,” he said.
Chronic Law also criticized several Jamaican media platforms, accusing them of publishing inaccurate and misleading reports about his legal troubles without properly verifying the facts.
“On The Spot, MyView, and the rest of unnu, before unnu put out wrong and misleading information about me, do unnu f*****g research. Stop trying to tear me down and damage my reputation just for views and attention. Unnu a play wid people life and career without knowing the full story,” the artiste added.
His statement has since sparked widespread discussion on social media, with fans expressing mixed reactions. While many have rallied behind the entertainer and called for due process, others have urged him to allow the legal proceedings to unfold before drawing conclusions about the circumstances surrounding his arrests.
To date, U.S. authorities have not publicly responded to Chronic Law’s allegations of being repeatedly targeted. The legal matters connected to his recent arrest remain before the courts.
