Dancehall fans are dissecting a line from Masicka’s latest track, “Honor Roll,” a collaboration with Kraff Gad featured on his newly released album Forever Reign.
The line in question has quickly caught attention because of what many listeners believe is a reference to fellow Dancehall artiste Skillibeng. Masicka was heard delivering the line: “Diss who fi diss, tell di princess, one crocodile pon di land.”
While Masicka does not call Skillibeng’s name directly, some fans believe the wording is too specific to be dismissed as a coincidence. The “princess” reference has been interpreted by listeners as a possible response to Skillibeng’s previous positioning alongside Vybz Kartel. Skillibeng has referred to himself as the “Prince” while saying Vybz Kartel is the “King” in their collaboration “The King and the Prince.”
The crocodile reference has added another layer to the speculation. Skillibeng is strongly associated with the imagery through his well-known song “Crocodile Teeth,” while Masicka has also used crocodile imagery as part of his own Dancehall identity.
Those lines has fans questioning whether Masicka intentionally said that to send a message to Skillibeng.
Is Masicka Calling for a Clash?
The question now circulating among Dancehall fans is whether the line is simply lyrical wordplay or the beginning of another confrontation.
Masicka has increasingly positioned himself as an artist determined to establish his place at the highest level of Dancehall. With Forever Reign, the artiste is making an even stronger statement about his longevity and his ambitions within the genre.
Some fans believe that if Masicka is indeed pursuing the position associated with Dancehall’s top tier, then taking lyrical shots at artists connected to Vybz Kartel could be part of that larger strategy.
Others, however, are urging fans not to read too much into one line, arguing that Dancehall artistes frequently use double meanings, metaphors and indirect references without necessarily looking for an actual clash and majority says this is a direct diss to Skillibeng.
Still, the Skillibeng connection has created enough discussion to make the lyric one of the most talked about moments on “Honor Roll.” For now, neither Masicka nor Skillibeng has publicly confirmed that the line was aimed at the other.
But in Dancehall, a carefully placed lyric can be enough to start a clash and Masicka appears to have done exactly that.
