Police have confirmed that a woman was among three people who were shot and killed during an alleged confrontation with law enforcement on Caledonia Road in Mandeville on Saturday afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, shortly after 4:00 p.m., police received information about a series of robberies in the area. Officers reportedly intercepted a vehicle believed to have been used as the getaway car near Horseshoe Curve.
A senior police source indicated that the occupants of the vehicle allegedly opened fire on the officers as they approached, prompting the police to return fire. This reportedly led to an extended exchange of gunfire and a running battle in the area.
Following the incident, a woman and two men were removed from the vehicle and transported to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The fatal confrontation occurred near the same location where a double murder took place last Saturday. In that incident, nursing student Deenekia Pounall and Sadefa Henry were fatally shot while travelling in a taxi after a gunman, who reportedly posed as a passenger, opened fire on them.
Investigations into Saturday’s shooting are ongoing as police continue to gather information surrounding the circumstances of the incident.
