A 26-year-old woman was shot and killed, and her mother injured, in a gun attack at their home in Patrick City, St Andrew, early Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Maya Ashley. Her mother, who was also shot, remains in hospital receiving treatment.
Police are now searching for the husband of the injured woman as part of their investigations.
Reports from the police state that about 4:45 a.m., the two women arrived at their residence on Appleton Avenue after Ashley had reportedly picked up her mother from the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.
Shortly after their arrival, loud explosions, believed to be gunshots, were heard. The women were later found suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were both rushed to hospital, where Ashley later succumbed to her injuries. Her mother was admitted for medical care.
Police sources have suggested that the attack may have been carried out by someone known to the victims, though several leads are still being actively pursued.
The Hunts Bay police are conducting investigations into the incident.
