Fifty-year-old Katherine Wallace was fatally stabbed around 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday along Love Lane in downtown Kingston.
The deadly attack, which was caught on video, occurred in the presence of several bystanders who reportedly tried to shield the woman from harm.
It is alleged that the accused, Davar Dacres, owed Wallace money. Reports suggest that an argument developed after she confronted him about the debt and he refused to repay her, escalating into the deadly attack.
Later that night, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police shot and killed the alleged attacker, identified as Davar Dacres, at the intersection of Hanover and Beeston streets.
Reports indicate that Dacres advanced toward the officers armed with a ratchet knife, allegedly shouting, “Mi nah go nuh jail.”
The Central Kingston Police have launched an investigation into the incident, while the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has also begun probing the circumstances surrounding the fatal police shooting.
