Member of Parliament for West Kingston, Desmond McKenzie, says he was pepper sprayed by a police officer during an incident in Tivoli Gardens early Tuesday morning.
According to McKenzie, he had travelled to the community after receiving calls from residents regarding a fatal police shooting that reportedly took place in a church yard.
Speaking during an interview on a radio programme this Morning, the veteran parliamentarian said the officer deployed pepper spray while he was at the location. He noted that although he has since rinsed his eyes with both milk and water, he continues to experience discomfort.
McKenzie stressed that he supports police operations aimed at apprehending wanted individuals but criticized the officer’s actions, arguing that the use of pepper spray in the circumstances was unnecessary.
