A utility company employee accused in last month’s fatal shooting of his neighbour—an incident caught on camera—was granted bail in the sum of $2 million when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court today.
The accused, 52-year-old Ishmael Davis, has been charged with the murder of 57-year-old construction worker Norris Farquharson.
As part of his bail conditions, Davis must surrender all travel documents and report regularly to the police. A stop order has also been placed at all ports to prevent him from leaving the country.
The incident occurred around 7:10 a.m. on May 27 along Tavern Avenue in St Andrew. It is alleged that an argument broke out between the two men, during which Davis used his licensed firearm to shoot Farquharson twice in the head. The act was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral on social media.
However, Davis’s attorneys, led by King’s Counsel Peter Champagnie and attorney Samoi Campbell, submitted alternate video footage to the court, claiming it offers a different view of what transpired.
According to the defence, the video suggests Davis may have acted in self-defence, as Farquharson appeared to be reaching for something in his waistband during the altercation. A knife was later recovered at the scene.
Davis is expected to return to court on July 14, 2025, when the matter will be mentioned again.
