A curfew was imposed in the Crawford district of St Elizabeth on Saturday evening following a fatal shooting there, even as another man was killed later that night in the parish capital, Black River.
The two men the first homicide victims recorded in the parish for the new year have been identified as Albert Smith and 47-year-old Basil Bruce. Reports indicate that around 9:00 pm on Friday, Smith was allegedly shot and killed by gunmen while attending a party in the Crawford community.
In a separate incident about 10:00 pm on Saturday, Bruce was reportedly inside a house in New Town, Black River, with a relative when two armed men entered and opened fire, fatally wounding him.
Following the first incident, the police implemented a 48-hour curfew in the Crawford area. The curfew commenced at 6:00 pm on Saturday, January 3, and is scheduled to conclude at 6:00 pm on Monday, January 5.
According to law enforcement, the curfew boundaries extend south along the coastline from Galleon Beach to a cul-de-sac, east along the Crawford main road from the primary school to a cul-de-sac at Galleon Beach, north from a cul-de-sac to the vicinity of the primary school along the main road, and west along an imaginary line back to the starting point.
