Police investigators believe a domestic dispute may have contributed to the horrific killing of a 29-year-old teacher and her 14-year-old daughter at their home in Mount View Estate, Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Thursday afternoon.
The victims have been identified as Tara Pinnock, a primary school teacher in Portmore, and her daughter Talia Wright, a student at a St Catherine high school.
According to Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, head of the St Catherine North Police Division, officers were alerted shortly after 1:00 p.m. to the gruesome discovery. Both mother and daughter were found suffering from multiple stab wounds, and their throats had been slashed.
As investigations intensified, the police named taxi operator Brandon Maine, who works the Naggo Head to Spanish Town route, as a person of interest. They urged him to report immediately to the nearest police station, noting that he could assist in the probe.
However, on Friday afternoon, just a day after he was listed, Maine is suspected to have taken his own life in Tweedside, Clarendon. Preliminary reports indicate that around 1:00 p.m., his body was found hanging from a mango tree in a yard in the community. Sources say he had fled to the area on Wednesday.
