Police have released the identity of the man fatally shot during an alleged confrontation in Hodges, near Black River, on Tuesday.
He has been identified as 44-year-old Leighton “Bigga Don” Nembhard, a sound selector who lived in Peacock Heights, Black River. According to police reports, Nembhard was involved in a confrontation with law enforcement officers on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers reportedly requested support from other units across the St Elizabeth division during what was described as a standoff between Nembhard and the police.
A Browning 9-millimetre pistol, along with a magazine containing two rounds, was allegedly seized at the scene.
So far this year, fourteen people have been killed in reported confrontations with the security forces.
