An elderly woman was pronounced dead on spot after she was mowed down by a police service vehicle in a high speed chase at Belle Isle road in Grange Hill, Westmoreland.
The police vehicle was on a high speed chase, trying to catch a fleeing bike man. According to the officer driving the vehicle, he lost control and hit the elderly woman who was walking on the side of the road.
The policeman was also injured in the incident and is admitted in the hospital undergoing treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Anita Swearing of a Grange Hill, Westmoreland address.
According to her family members she was on her way home after doing back to school shopping for her five (5) kids.
“We are in shock at this moment. Her kids have been crying none stop since they got the news about their mother.
I don’t know how her kids are going to cope with this right now knowing their mother is gone and they have school tomorrow.
She’s a single mother who does everything in her powers to make sure her kids have everything they need.
I can’t explain how her kids and the whole family feels right now, a family member said”.
