A tragic incident at Sand Hills Beach in Hellshire, Portmore, St Catherine, has left a policeman and a teenage boy feared drowned. The deceased officer has been identified as Constable Shamar Grant, who was reportedly on leave at the time of the incident.
According to initial reports, the teenager was swimming at the beach along with a woman when both encountered difficulties in the water. Constable Grant reportedly attempted to rescue them but also got into trouble while trying to assist.
The woman was eventually rescued and taken to the Spanish Town Hospital for treatment. She succumbed to her injures on Friday morning.
They have been identified as Constable Shamar Grant, who was assigned to the St Catherine South Police Division, 24-year-old Alia Dawkins and 12-year-old Aaron Russell of a Waterford, Portmore address.
A search operation was launched to locate the missing constable and the teenage boy, and police personnels were summoned to the scene. Members of the Marine Division are expected to participate in the ongoing search efforts.
The incident is currently under investigation.
