A police officer assigned to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Lottery Scamming Task Force was ambushed by armed men in Reading, St James, late Saturday night while travelling with his family.
The attackers opened fire on the vehicle, fatally wounding the officer’s spouse and young son. His spouse was later pronounced dead. The officer and his son who sustained multiple gunshot injuries, was rushed to hospital where they remain in emergency surgery.
Their condition is yet to be determined.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased or the injured officer, and investigations into the deadly attack are ongoing.
“We extend our sincerest condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased. We wish a speedy recovery to the officer and his son, who are currently receiving medical attention.
This senseless act of violence will not deter the Jamaica Constabulary Force from our duty to serve and protect the people of Jamaica. We assure the public that we will spare no effort in our investigation and will avail all necessary resources to speedily apprehend the persons responsible for the heinous crime.
