A St. Elizabeth police officer who was reportedly battling mental health challenges was found dead at his home on Wednesday afternoon in what appears to be a case of suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Constable Arnold Wilson, who was attached to the Half-Way Tree Police Station in St. Andrew. He lived in Williamsfield District, St. Elizabeth.
According to reports, around 5:30 p.m., a neighbour discovered Constable Wilson’s body hanging from an ackee tree in his yard and immediately raised an alarm. The police were called to the scene, where they confirmed that the constable had a rope tied around his neck.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Wilson had been experiencing signs of mental instability and was considered unfit for active duty. He was reportedly on leave and undergoing treatment at the time of his death.
Family members revealed that his mental health had worsened following the recent passing of his father overseas.
Investigators from the Santa Cruz Police are continuing their probe into the circumstances surrounding his death.
