Dantay Brooks, the son of dancehall icon Mavado, has once again found himself in legal trouble after being charged with several firearm-related offences.
Reports indicate that Brooks was charged on Wednesday with assault at common law, unlawful wounding, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a prohibited weapon to commit a scheduled offence.
According to sources close to the investigation, Brooks is also under probe in connection with another firearm-related incident. The current charges are linked to an alleged incident that took place in Cassava Piece, St Andrew, near an area known as ‘Pon Di Gaza’, around 9:30 p.m. on July 12.
This latest development comes just months after Brooks was freed in March when the Court of Appeal overturned his 2021 murder conviction for the killing of Lorenzo Thomas. His co-accused, Andre Hinds, was also acquitted at that time.
During the original trial, prosecutors had claimed that Brooks and Hinds were part of a group of five men who entered a home in Cassava Piece on June 5, 2018, where they allegedly shot and killed Thomas before forcing his father into another room.
Meanwhile, Mavado whose real name is David Brooks recently made headlines for his return to Jamaica after seven years abroad. Upon his return, he met with law enforcement officials, and the longstanding warrant for his arrest was formally vacated a day later.
