The St Ann police are now investigating the death of a 44-year-old hospital attendant in St Ann.
She has been identified as Cameka Haley, who was employed at the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital.
It is believed that Haley was killed sometime between Thursday night and Saturday by her common-law spouse.
It is said that she was either strangled or hit with a blunt instrument.
Haley was reportedly involved in an argument with Shirley on Thursday, which was the last time she was seen before her son discovered her lifeless body on Saturday morning.
Upon arrival, the police reportedly found the deceased lying on her back on the floor, dressed in a nightgown and displaying noticeable black and blue marks on her neck and spots of blood on her clothing.
Kevan Shirley of Parry Town, Ocho Rios, St Ann is now in police custody after being apprehended in Higgins Land, Alexander in the parish on Monday.
According to police reports, Shirley reportedly ingested a corrosive substance before jumping into a concrete water tank. He was subsequently rescued with the assistance of residents and transported to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
