The man believed to be behind the August 9 attack on a policeman assigned to the Lottery Scam Unit Task Force and his family was fatally shot by law enforcement on Wednesday evening.
He has been identified as 24-year-old Orlando Thomas, otherwise called “Ninja.”
According to reports, police officers were on duty in Salt Spring, St James, when they encountered two armed men who allegedly opened fire on them. A reported gun battle ensued, during which one of the suspects escaped on foot. The other, later identified as Thomas, collapsed on the roadway with gunshot wounds.
He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police say a firearm and ammunition were seized from him.
Thomas was wanted in connection with last Saturday night’s gun attack, which left the wife of a policeman dead and caused serious injuries to both the officer and his young son.
Investigators have also confirmed that a woman has been taken into custody in relation to the incident.
