A man accused of fatally assaulting an elderly resident in St Thomas also lost his life after reportedly falling while trying to escape the scene on Tuesday.
The incident has led investigators in the St Thomas division to probe two separate matters one being a homicide and the other a suspected case of death by misadventure stemming from the same confrontation.
The deceased have been identified as 75-year-old Joseph Douglas and 33-year-old Troy Beckford, both residents of Debtor Lane in Seaforth, St Thomas.
According to reports, the two men were involved in a dispute around 1:30 p.m. that escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, Beckford allegedly struck Douglas, causing the elderly man to fall to the ground.
Beckford is said to have attempted to flee the area but reportedly fell and sustained serious injuries. Both men were transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing, being led by the Morant Bay Criminal Investigation Branch.
