The Police High Command has ordered an investigation into a viral video in which a man was badly beaten by other detainees at the Ocho Rios lock-up in St. Ann.
The incident occurred Thursday night.
The injured detainee has been hospitalised under police guard.
In a video, which appears to have been created by the detainees, they are seen stomping and torturing the man.
The injured man, who was bleeding from the head, appeared to be in a semi-conscious state.
The video did not show any police personnel manning the lock-up.
A senior officer told our news centre that force policy clearly states that the lock-ups must be checked hourly throughout the night.
It’s understood that the police conducted a search of the cells today following the release of the viral video.
The Independent Commission of investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate unit will be probing the incident.
