An 11-year-old boy was among two people who died after a house was destroyed by fire along North Street in Kingston early Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as 11-year-old Jayden Whyte and 60-year-old Junior Barrett.
According to the Denham Town Police, law enforcement officers were alerted to the blaze shortly after midnight after reports of a fire at a premises in the area.
Members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade responded to the scene and battled the flames before eventually bringing the fire under control. Firefighters also carried out cooling-down operations to ensure the blaze had been fully extinguished and to prevent any possible rekindling.
Following the firefighting efforts, the charred remains of Whyte and Barrett were discovered inside the home.
The circumstances surrounding the fire remain unclear at this time, and investigators have launched an investigation to determine how the blaze started and the events leading up to the deaths.
The tragic incident has left residents in the North Street community shocked, particularly with the death of the 11-year-old boy who would be celebrating his 12th birthday tomorrow.
