Sections of Red Hills Road in St Andrew were blocked by residents on Wednesday morning as they protested a fatal shooting involving members of the police.
The protest reportedly followed the death of a man who residents claim was innocent and was shot by the police during an incident on Karl Samuda Avenue. The circumstances surrounding the shooting have not yet been fully disclosed.
The man has been identified only by his alias “Mad Dog”.
POLICE CONFIRM INCIDENT & PROTEST
The police have confirmed both the fatal shooting and the subsequent protest in the St Andrew North Police Division. However, law enforcement officials have not yet provided detailed information about what led to the shooting or the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Several police personnel were dispatched to the area as residents gathered along the roadway.
ROADWAY OBSTRUCTION
Videos circulating on social media show shopping carts, metal tables, garbage containers and burning debris scattered across sections of the roadway near PriceSmart and KFC.
The obstruction has affected traffic movement in the area, with motorists encountering difficulties navigating the affected sections of Red Hills Road.
Police remain on the scene as efforts continue to manage the situation and restore normal traffic flow.
More information is expected as the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the protest become available.
