A suspected gunman was shot and killed by the police following a deadly attack on a taxi operator in Nain, St Elizabeth, on Wednesday afternoon.
The taxi operator, identified as 48-year-old Rohan Hill otherwise called “Unruly”, was shot and killed shortly after 5 p.m.
According to the St Elizabeth Police, Hill was transporting two men who had reportedly posed as passengers when the attack took place.
Following the murder, a team of police officers launched a search for the suspected attackers and later managed to locate the men. Police say one of the suspects allegedly challenged the lawmen, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The man was shot during the confrontation and later succumbed to his injuries.
The identity of the suspected gunman has not yet been released.
Meanwhile, the police are continuing their search for the alleged accomplice, who remains at large.
Head of the St Elizabeth Police Division, Superintendent Coleridge Minto, confirmed to our news team on Wednesday evening that an operation was underway to locate the second suspect.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the taxi operator’s murder are ongoing.
