American actor and Reggae artiste Brian-Todd Anthony Boucher, who portrayed alleged Jamaican gangster Claudie Massop in the film Bob Marley – One Love, was shot and killed in Waterford, St. Catherine, on Saturday night.
Boucher, 47-year-old , also known as “Ras Ajai,” was reportedly from Northport Way in New York and had arrived in Jamaica just hours before the fatal shooting, according to sources.
Another man, 37, was also injured during the attack and remains hospitalized receiving treatment. His condition has not been disclosed.
Reports indicate that about 9:00 pm, Boucher was sitting along a section of Kendal Road in the Waterford community, in an area known as “Third World,” when he was approached by armed men travelling in a motor car, they opened fire hitting him multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Both victims were rushed to the Spanish Town General Hospital, where Boucher was pronounced dead. The second victim continues to receive medical treatment.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed that Boucher had only recently arrived in Jamaica from overseas and had planned to visit his daughter.
“Ras Ajai had just flown in from foreign and said he was going to check on his daughter. He stopped at a bench in Third World, where he was talking with some men and showing them videos on his phone. Suddenly, gunshots rang out. Ras Ajai was struck in the head. A younger man who was nearby managed to run away without being hit, while another man was shot in the hip and foot. About six shots were fired. Ras Ajai died at the scene from a severe head wound. The other man was also injured. Ras Ajai didn’t deserve that,” the resident said.
Boucher recently completed a 20-day tour of the United States with Sean Paul, as he had been a member of the Dutty Rock camp for over six years.
The St. Catherine South Police have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting as they work to establish a motive and identify those responsible.
