Two men believed to be connected to the shooting of a female pump attendant on Deanery Road in St Andrew earlier on Wednesday were shot and killed during a police operation in Spanish Town, St Catherine, later that night.
Reports indicate that shortly after 9:00 p.m., police received intelligence that the suspects, who were being sought in connection with the shooting as well as a string of robberies targeting the Rubis service station on Deanery Road and other locations across the Corporate Area, were seen in the St John’s community of Spanish Town.
A police team responded to the area and reportedly spotted a group of men. The officers identified themselves as police, but the men allegedly pulled firearms and opened fire. The lawmen returned fire, resulting in two of the suspects being shot.
A 9mm pistol was recovered at the scene. The injured men were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Their identities have not yet been released.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), which probes incidents involving the police resulting in death or serious injury, has been notified and is expected to conduct its investigation into the fatal shooting.
