A pedal cyclist lost his life following a motor vehicle collision along the Pepper main road in St Elizabeth on Friday evening.
He has been identified as 51-year-old Michael Williams, otherwise known as “Swiff” or “Birdman,” of Phantiland in Pepper. Reports indicate that about 6:00 p.m., Mr Williams was riding his bicycle from Gutters towards Goshen when a Toyota Coaster bus, travelling in the opposite direction, attempted to overtake a line of vehicles and struck him.
The impact caused the cyclist to be dragged several feet before the bus, which was operating as a public passenger vehicle, eventually came to a halt.
The driver of the bus has since been taken into custody on reasonable suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, as investigations continue by the Santa Cruz Police.
