A taxi operator was shot and killed this morning near the Kingston Public Hospital by a licensed firearm holder.
Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of the police’s Area Four division, confirmed that the incident was reported to him at approximately 10:15 a.m.
The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Carlo Ellis, a taxi driver who plied the Jones Town route.
According to preliminary reports, Ellis became involved in a dispute with another taxi operator, said to be a former police officer. During the confrontation, Ellis was shot.
It’s alleged that the former police officer shot the taxi operator after refusing to pay his fare.
The ex-cop, who is the licensed firearm holder involved in the incident, has since surrendered himself to the authorities.
