In what will go down as one of the most iconic moments in Dancehall history, Dancehall Legend Vybz Kartel was officially crowned the “King of Dancehall” by none other than Spice the undisputed Queen of the genre, during his electrifying set at Reggae Sumfest 2025.
Kartel’s electrifying performance marked his first live stage appearance at Reggae Sumfest in over a decade. Thousands of fans packed the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex to witness what many are calling the greatest comeback in Jamaican music history.
As Kartel emerged onstage shortly after midnight, the atmosphere was electric. Dressed in a Jamaican coloured suit, the Gaza boss entered the stage with a powerful hit track “Jamaica” representing his country.
THE CROWNING
Halfway through his set, the lights dimmed and a familiar voice echoed through the venue.
“There can be only one King.”
Spice entered the stage in a blue gown, holding two crowns. The crowd erupted! As the music paused, she approached Kartel and addressed the audience.
“On behalf of the music fraternity, Reggae Sumfest, Joe Bogdanovich, Jamaica, Gaza Nation and The Entire World, We are here to crown the legend Adidja Azim Palmer as The King Of Dancehall. Any Other King A Burger King, Spice said”.
After being crowned King of Dancehall, Vybz Kartel says big up to Beenie Man “The Former King”. Big up to all the legends, Bounty Killa, Buju Banton and Ninja Man. Buju Banton and Ninja Man are my biggest inspiration in music, he said.
Since his release last year, Kartel has been dominating headlines, releasing new music, and selling out arena’s all over the world.
With his freedom restored and crown now placed firmly on his head, Vybz Kartel’s reign continues, not from behind bars, but from the very throne he built.
