The tragic search for 22-year-old Candace Honore came to a heartbreaking end on Thursday when human remains believed to be hers were discovered in a suitcase submerged in a shallow pond along Oropouche Road in Valencia.
Honore had been reported missing on July 10, two days after she failed to return home from her job at a local community roti shop. Despite being unable to view the dismembered remains, which were found stuffed into grocery bags and packed into a black suitcase, her grieving parents have accepted that the remains are likely hers.
Police were last night searching for a suspect who they believe is her boyfriend who lives in the Valencia area.
Guided by a public tip, the Hunters Search and Rescue Team, led by Vallence Rambharat, began their search around 6 a.m. in a bushy, fenced plot of land near the pond. The area was overgrown and isolated, with a strong odor of decay and swarming flies alerting the team to the presence of something sinister.
Shortly after, the black suitcase was retrieved from the murky water. Officers from the Valencia Police Station instructed the team to open it, revealing the gruesome discovery inside.
Investigators believe the suitcase had been borrowed from a woman living nearby. It was reportedly transported to the dump site using a wheelbarrow, which was later returned to its owner.
The investigation is ongoing, as authorities work to confirm the identity of the remains and determine the circumstances surrounding Honore’s disappearance and death.
