Police are currently investigating a deadly incident at the compound of Ocho Rios High School where a student was fatally injured during a confrontation with a schoolmate on Wednesday.
According to reports, two male students became involved in a physical altercation on the school grounds. During the dispute, one of the teenagers allegedly used a metal chair to strike the other in the back of the head.
The injured student was rushed to St Ann’s Bay Hospital, where medical personnel said he arrived unresponsive. Doctors noted that he had suffered a deep laceration to the scalp that was actively bleeding, injuries consistent with severe blunt force trauma to the head.
Despite emergency treatment and surgery in the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department, the teenager sadly died shortly after.
Reports indicate that the student believed to be responsible was taken to the police by a teacher following the incident. However, he reportedly escaped and is now being sought by law enforcement.
Investigations are ongoing, and more information is expected to be released as the situation develops.
