A teenage boy is believed to have drowned in the community of Alligator Pond on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as 15-year-old Kemar Dixon, who lived in the Myersville district of St Elizabeth.
Reports from the police indicate that around 3:50 pm, Dixon and several of his friends were swimming in a river in the area when he reportedly began experiencing difficulties in the water and disappeared beneath the surface.
After a search, his body was eventually retrieved from the river. The police were summoned, and Dixon was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The section of the river, commonly referred to by residents as “River” in Alligator Pond, has been linked to several drowning incidents over the years, particularly during holidays when large crowds visit the location.
In August 2023, two individuals lost their lives at the same spot. Additionally, a well known community member who had previously rescued several people from drowning at the river tragically died there just a week later after getting into trouble upstream.
